Climate Resiliency

What Can I Do?

The high alpine environment is very arid and can go through bouts of drought, which has impacts on our natural land and water resources. Wildfire is a real risk here in the high country, so be sure to stay up to date on the current wildfire risk and any fire restrictions in the County.

What Are We Doing?

Our land and water leaders are spearheading efforts to strengthen landscape resiliency and incorporate climate-based solutions into management efforts.

Efforts on our landscape in the face of a changing climate include implementing mitigation steps to enhance the wildfire readiness of our forests. These efforts include reducing the amount of flammable material on the ground, controlled burns, and fuel reduction plans.

There are many dynamic projects throughout the county, with work being completed and new projects being introduced every week. Land management agencies consistently collaborate with partners to implement and oversee this work, contributing to the renowned reputation of Summit County’s outdoor amenities. Climate change is the greatest threat to human rights in the 21st century.
